Richard has been working in the animation industry since 1983. Starting at DIC Entertainment for television animation, his illustration skills were utilized in design and background color keys.  After 10 years of working at numerous other studios, TMS, Warner Bros, Universal, Marvel Productions, etc, he began his career in feature animation at Walt Disney Studios.

 He developed background stylings for Mulan for a year, and was then invited to take part in production at the newly formed DreamWorks Animation Studio.  Richard became an Art Director on the Prince Of Egypt production.  He then moved into Visual Development, working on Spirit, Sinbad, and Over The Hedge.  In 2000, he returned to Disney Studios to work on  Brother Bear and helped to develop sequences for many key moments in the film.
 
In 2002 he was part of the creation of a new studio, Sony Pictures Animation. This is where he moved into management, taking on the role of Visual Development Supervisor.  His duties involved building an art department for the studio, gathering artists and creating teams for production.  When time allowed, he would contribute designs to productions such as, Open Season, Surf's Up, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, Hotel Transylvania, and many projects that have yet to be completed.

In 2011, Richard began working at Unified Picture developing their feature animation division. He helped with story development, visual development and story boarding until his return to DreamWorks. There, he helped develop story beat boards for numerous projects.
